Spice up Your Look: Trending Fall Makeup

Tis’ the season for Pumpkin Spice Lattes and kissing our summer makeup trends (sun-kissed skin, faux freckles, and saturated, sunnier hues) goodbye!

Much like bronzed skin and sweat-proof formulas are synonymous with summer, autumn brings a shift towards moodier hues evocative of spooky season and the changing landscape. Whether it’s chilly nights or back-to-school nostalgia, there’s something about fall that hearkens back to the classics. Think cable knit sweaters, corduroy, and, in the case of makeup, autumnal shades inspired by what’s in season.

We love the changing of seasons because they give us reason to return to trends while adapting the techniques, formulas and finishes we use to achieve them. Cable knits and cooler temperatures aside, embrace fall with these trending makeup looks.

Wine-Stained Lips

A bold lip is always in season. This time of year, we swap out the vibrant shades of summer for wine-stained lips which perfectly compliment the deeper, darker hues of autumn.

What we love most about this trend is its versatility – wine-stained lipstick can be edgy or romantic depending on the rest of your look. Pair with minimal eye makeup and natural, glowy skin for an understated take on the ‘statement lip’.

Achieve the look with our Cream Supreme High Impact Lipstick in shades Regenerate, a Dark Berry, and Parallel Universe, a Burgundy Purple. For an even softer look, simply diffuse the pigment. First, apply Cream Supreme directly to your ring finger. Next, gently pat the product onto your lips, starting at the center and smudging outward to achieve a stain with soft edges. Whether you prefer warm or cool tones, wine-stained lips are a chic addition to your makeup rotation.

Soft Brown Smokey Eyes

A fall color palette wouldn’t be complete without brown tones, which compliment a variety of skin tones and a wide range of looks. From cool toned, dusty browns to rich caramels, incorporating the shade into your eye makeup arsenal is an easy way to elevate your natural eye look.

For this, we love the Eye Shaping Stylo, our versatile, 4-in-1 cream matte eye stick designed to shade, shape and contour eyes.

To create depth and dimension, choose an Eye Shaping Stylo in a shade two to three shades darker than your natural skin tone and apply to creases, blending outward towards temples. This contour shade should create shadows that enhance your facial features while maintaining a soft, natural appearance.

For a softer take on the classic smokey eye, we love to use Umber, a deep warm brown, as an eye kohl. Simply glide along your upper and lower lash lines, then use a brush to soften lines by smudging and blending. Remember to work the product back and forth until you achieve your desired smokiness.

Terracotta Blush

Whether you love it or hate it, pumpkin spice has taken over everything from candles to toothpaste. When it comes to the trending ‘Pumpkin Spice Makeup,’ we recommend a gentle approach: terracotta blush (a subtle nod to our favorite flavor and the changing fall leaves).

Much like ‘Strawberry Girl’ makeup, which incorporated strawberry pink cheeks and a glossy red lip, ‘Pumpkin Spice Latte’ makeup is all about warm, orange and bronzy tones reminiscent of cinnamon and squash.

To achieve those perfectly *spiced* cheeks, we love to use Heat Stroke Dewy Gel Cheek Tint in shade Toasted, a warm light brown, and top it off with the Skin Mimetic Microsuede Blush in Vivid Dream, a bright orange.

Why You Should Use a Skin Tint in the Summer

A skin tint is the lightest of all complexion products, designed to even out and unify your skin tone with minimal coverage. With a watery, serum-like consistency, a good skin tint should blur imperfections, redness, and pores without looking or feeling like you’re wearing anything.
