Spotlight On: Pre-Cleanse Fluid

Cleansing is a crucial part of every skincare routine. It removes excess sebum, dead skin cells, pollutants, and impurities that can cause congestion, dullness, premature aging, and hinder the bioavailability and absorption of your skincare. An oil cleanser is optimal for purifying the skin and removing oil based products such as sunscreen and makeup since they have similar polarities. One study showed that using an oil based cleanser to remove sunscreen and waterproof sunscreen left behind less product residue compared to the use of water or a water based cleanser.1 Oil based cleansers also cause less irritation and dryness than traditional cleansers. When used as part of a double cleanse an oil cleanser provides “sacrificial lipids” that a water based or foaming cleanser then removes rather than stripping the natural lipids from your skin. This is important not only for dry skin but also combination and acne prone skin as excessive dryness leads to the skin’s oil glands overcompensating and increased sebum production which can exacerbate acne and blemishes.1 Our Pre-Cleanse Fluid effectively dissolves makeup, oil, SPF, and other impurities and was developed to be used in conjunction with a second cleanser such as our Succulent Skin Wash for optimal purity. The combination provides a clean and refreshed skin feel without tightness, dryness, or leftover product residue.

Our Pre-Cleanse Fluid contains a high purity, non-polar alkane. As it is nonpolar and therefore very oil soluble it efficiently yet gently solubilizes impurities on the skin surface. Its extremely low surface tension offers improved spreadability, slip, and solubilization compared to botanical oils while still remaining readily biodegradable.1 For a clean rinse-off, many oil cleansers rely on PEG based emulsifiers as the ethoxylation process increases the hydrophilicity or water solubility of the emulsifier. We formulated with 100% botanical polyglyceryl emulsifiers without sacrificing efficacy. Our Pre-Cleanse Fluid is perfect for eye makeup removal as it contains nonionic surfactants. Cationic, anionic, and amphoteric surfactants can irritate the gentle eye area while nonionic surfactants have both higher oil solubilizing power (great for sunscreen and makeup removal) and lower irritation potential than the aforementioned classes.

We included a skin nourishing blend of oils rich in omega fatty acids including rice bran oil, chia seed oil, jojoba oil, and evening primrose oil. The combination of these oils help maintain the skin’s moisture barrier, leaving skin feeling soft, smooth, and balanced. Our vegan squalane is a Lab Engineered Natural Ingredient (L.E.N.I.) obtained via fermentation of sugarcane. It is highly sustainable, standardized for purity and consistency, and has a very high affinity for the skin. Our other featured L.E.N.I. material is a bioactive green algae. The green algae is first grown in a cell culture with specialized media under defined high UV conditions to produce a high number of chloroplasts. These chloroplasts are then isolated from the algae then undergo temperature fractionation to isolate the lipids within the chloroplasts. This specialized isolation of lipids and fatty acids from the green algae creates an oil soluble active with high skin affinity and skin benefits.

Our Pre-Cleanse Fluid is developed for all skin types and is the first step to healthy, glowing skin.
