Get The Look: MAKE Holiday Makeup

‘Tis the season for maximalism, playing with new color palettes, and doing a little more to feel glamorous, if not only to sit on the couch and watch your favorite holiday movie.

Holiday Party Makeup 101

From tinsel topped trees to presents wrapped in bows, the holiday season is an excuse for a little sparkle and shine, and that goes for makeup too.

For many of us, office parties, family gatherings and the year’s end give reason to be more playful and overt in our presentation than we are throughout the year. Needless to say, our favorite way to channel the festive spirit is with a holiday makeup look.

For those seeking holiday party makeup inspiration, look no further than founder and creative director of MAKE Beauty, Carrie Barber, for a lip and cheek look sure to stand out at your next soirée (or Home Alone screening).

The Look

We don't always endorse a bold lip and cheek combo, but the festive season calls for makeup we can have fun with. If red lipstick is the ‘star’ of this look, consider pink blush the ‘supporting role.’ Rather than compete, red and pink make for a modern pairing that feels feminine and playful.

Step-by-Step Guide to Creating Carrie’s Holiday Makeup Look

The Base:

Luminous, healthy-looking skin underpins this statement lip and cheek, so you don’t want to overdo it.

To start, cover spots and brighten under eyes with the Skin Mimetic Concealer, MAKE’s buildable, medium-coverage concealer. Next, achieve your-skin-but-better with the Diffusion Dew Skin Tint, MAKE’s sheer, breathable skin-tint infused with calming niacinamide and skin-smoothing adenosine. Both the skin tint and the concealer feature skin mimicking pigments that melt into skin and give a natural, radiant finish. For best results, apply using MAKE’s Universal Blending Brush. It’s designed to blend and buff complexion products for an even, line-free application.

The Cheek:

For the perfect flush of color, Carrie wears The Skin Mimetic Microsuede Blush in New Moon, a reddish pink. To apply, choose a brush with fluffy bristles and tap the pan using a light swirling motion. To remove excess product, gently tap on the back of your hand and tap product into skin. For a lifted effect, start at the apples of your cheeks and move outward towards cheekbones.

The Eye:

Tightlining with eyeliner is a quick and easy way to define eyes and enhance lashes. For this, we like Continuum Gel Eyeliner in Nebula, a soft Brown Black.

To line your upper waterline, the area beneath the lash line, use your fingers to gently lift lashes. Using small strokes, fill in the water line with Continuum Waterproof Gel Eyeliner. For extra sparkle, dab inner corners with Continuum in shades Celestial, Interstellar or Halo, and finish with a coat or two of our volumizing Lash Prototype Mascara.

The Brow:

Groomed brows go with everything. Keep yours lifted with Infinite Hold Sculpting Brow Gel, our strong-hold brow gel formulated with advanced polymers that give volume and definition sans residue, flaking or stiffness.

The Lip:

You can’t go wrong with a classic. Achieve the perfect red lip with Cream Supreme High Impact Lipstick in shade New Lava, a warm red.

For easy application, Carrie recommends tapping on a little product before your full coat, which can serve as a way to help you build up pigment gradually and add grip to help lipstick stay put all night.
